We will be having another “Coffee with Cops” on Tuesday, April 16th at 8:00 a.m. at the Manor Township Police Station located at 950 W. Fairway Drive, Lancaster. Come out and meet your local officers and Chief. Residents will have a chance to ask questions concerning issues in Manor Township. The event has been a huge success and has been a great building block for relations between the Officers of Manor Township and the Manor Township residents. If you have any questions concerning this event you can contact Sergeant Kim Geyer at 299-5231.
Manor Township established a leaf compost facility at 2783 Charlestown Road in 1991. After composting leaves at this site for the past 27 years, the Township will be relocating the site to 2996 Charlestown Road. This site is located on the south east corner of Donerville Road. The relocation was made possible by the Penn Manor School District agreeing to permit the Township to use the property for composting. Leaves will be accepted loose or in biodegradable bags only. The Township also receives leaves from neighboring municipalities and boroughs.
Once leaves are brought to the site they are placed in rows for composting. Naturally occurring microorganisms found on leaves are primarily responsible for their composting. However, there are several other factors that affect the rate of composting which include temperature, moisture and air. Moisture is regularly monitored and maintained. The rows are turned based on the temperature of the leaves, allowing more oxygen through the piles, which is necessary for decomposition. Typically, leaves are finished composting in 10 months.
Once composting is complete, the compost is screened to remove any objects that have not been composted. The finished product is then offered for sale to the general public at $10/cubic yard on the scheduled dates below. The Township will continue to use the old site located at 2783 Charlestown Road for the Spring of 2019.
